Emerald Interloper

When it comes to insects, I don’t think that you can do worse than flies. They are associated with rotting carcasses and disease, and they tend to invoke a flurry of flailing arms when they fly around people. Yet, from time to time, I am struck by how bright and colorful some of them are. This photo was taken at dusk after purchasing a second camera – primarily to see how it handled situations in which light wasn’t ideal. What do you think?
