Our cat Laila is a beautiful animal. A brown Tabby, her fur has a fantastic pattern; sleek and striped – she’s like a little tiger. What also helps capture her is the fact that she’s a total poser: as soon as she sees a camera, she sits perfectly still and swishes her tail until you start to focus. It’s quite uncanny.
The biggest problem with shooting animals is the “red eye” you get from them (it’s not really red – it’s sort of yellowish-green). To get around that, it’s helpful to have a decent flash that you can bounce off of a nearby white-space – namely, the ceiling. It also helps to have a lighter background when photographing an animal with such pleasantly patterned fur.
