This photograph was taken along the Centennial Ridges Trail in Algonquin Park in July, 2004. It’s a maple tree in a very young stage. What struck me about this particular sapling was its perfect symmetry, and how it looked as though it had just erupted from the ground like an explosion. This reminded me of our young, upstart country.
Perhaps not the same perfect symmetry, but the eruption may be no different, especially considering the age of the forest into which we emerged.
